Don Giovanni

About the Production

Don Giovanni

Romance, intrigue, jealousy, cunning, fury… and retribution!

Mozart’s captivating masterpiece, which follows the story of Don Giovanni, the women he seduces, and the vengeance that ultimately catches up with him, is a new premiere production of the Konstantin Kisimov Music and Drama Theatre.

The work of the brilliant composer is renowned for its constantly evolving, multi-layered characters, dynamic action, and remarkable blend of comedy and heartbreak.

In his portrayal of Don Giovanni, Mozart moves beyond the conventions of comedy, which is why noble and romantic elements predominate in the character’s musical depiction.

Don Giovanni has been called a “great opera” because Mozart’s genius brilliantly combines light-hearted comedy with terrifying tragedy, ultimately leading Don Giovanni to his tragic end.

The finale is conceived as a moral lesson for anyone who causes pain and suffering to others.

Described by Mozart himself as a dramma giocoso — a “playful drama” — Don Giovanni is undoubtedly one of the pinnacles of the composer’s work, brilliantly combining the characteristics of dramatic and comic opera. Despite its comic elements, the opera as a whole is a powerful psychological drama.

The dramatic construction of the work demonstrates Mozart’s unique instinct for theatrical action. At the same time, every musical number represents the highest level of perfection in musical form. The characters are vivid, distinctive, and alive, shaped with extraordinary mastery.

The overture to Don Giovanni is one of Mozart’s most significant overtures and one of his most frequently performed orchestral works.

The opera is performed in the original Italian with Bulgarian surtitles.
